Mineral Point Football takes on Lancaster in the 2019 Playoffs

The word is in, and sports are on.

A long saga of meetings, votes, decisions, and revisions has (for now) come to a close. The Southwest Wisconsin Activities League (SWAL) voted to allow school boards to make the final decision on whether or not their school districts would participate in the fall sports season due to COVID-19. That vote tied.

So what does this mean for the Pointers? Mineral Point’s School Board voted to allow Boy’s Soccer, Cross Country, and Volleyball. The vote on Football was tied, but it will be played this fall. However, schedules will change as some schools are opting-out of playing. Ms. Dahl, our athletic director will be working with other AD’s to make changes to our schedule.

As expected, there will be effects on the fans as the number of fans that will be allowed in the stands will be changed. Host schools will be making the final decision on the number of fans that will safely be allowed in the stands, with social distancing and masks in mind. Schools are currently working on a simple resolution to this question, and Mineral Point is working on getting the resources neccecary to stream Pointer Sports LIVE so that fans without tickets can still se the Pointers in action.

So when will all of this begin? Dodge Point Cross Country started practice on August 17th, and Boy’s Soccer, Football, and Volleyball practice will begin on September 7th. Schedules are still unknown, as previously stated.
