The Mineral Point Pointers JV team took on Cuba City the other night. It was a hard-fought game the entire night. It was all tied up at 14 going into halftime. Then in the second half, the Pointers hit a cold spell and none of their shots were falling. The Pointers ended up losing 46-52. Coach Jelly said, “I was proud of how hard we played our shots just weren’t falling.” The Pointers will take on Southwester on Thursday, December 17th at Southwestern.

It was a sad day on Tuesday for the Mineral Point Varsity Basketball team, as their long-awaited confrontation against Cuba City left them with a disappointing final score of a 44-80 loss following a respectable round of basketball that just wasn’t able to give the team the win they were hoping for. As far as leading scorers go, there weren’t really any players putting notable sums of points on the board (the highest being Dominic McVay with 9 points) and almost everybody had around the same contribution in terms of points scored. Unfortunately, none of this mattered as Cuba City outplayed the team in a way that just left a bad taste in my mouth. Here’s what player Joah Filardo had to say on what went wrong and what the team needs to fix when they show up for their game against Southwestern this Thursday. He said they need to work on “shooting the ball better and communicating on defense”. Hopefully, the team can deliver better results for Thursday’s game.
