On October 7th, Mineral Point held their cancer awareness night during the home volleyball game against the Darlington Redbirds. This night is more meaningful to families than you might think. The money raised throughout the night goes to several local families who are currently battling cancer. They may use the money for traveling to treatments, meals, or whatever else they need. Between one of the matches, we passed around a bucket in the crowd for a minute. Approximately $1000 was brought in during the bucket pass, an amazing number for one minute’s time! Another donation opportunity was the silent auction. Families brought in items to put into the silent auction and over $4000 was made, an incredible amount! They also held the 50/50 raffle tickets with the prize of $500 for the winner. The person who won donated $300 back to the cause. We would like to give a huge thank you to Angie Reichling and Jennie Pete from Mound City Bank for organizing the entire silent auction. They also took part in the planning committee along with Kirby Wenger and Lisa Sudmeier. Volleyball coach Kari Kabat stated, “The pink night was a huge success!  The community was so wonderful about donating silent auction items but also bidding on the items that were there.  The miracle minute was absolutely amazing as well.  We are so fortunate to live in such a supportive community.  The money will all go to local families.” Pink night was a huge success with the win over the Redbirds and the money brought in for cancer awareness!
