2021 Marching Band Overview
When you imagine extracurricular activities that have been hit hard by the pandemic, sports might come to mind. However, the band has been hit hard too. There were no marching band halftime shows, or upbeat songs played during the basketball games last year. This year, the band is back. The group performed songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera at football games this fall.
Junior Brock Ellingson who plays the clarinet said, “This season was a struggle at first. But then I feel we really came together for an exceptional halftime show.”
The band was directed by Mr. Nevers and Drum Major Jazmine Cool. Mr. Nevers has been teaching marching band for years. He was impressed with the halftime shows despite the underclassmen having never marched a step on the football field before.
Going forward, the band will be turning a metaphorical 180. They will be switching to concert band, focusing on music for Veteran’s Day.
