Basketball Girls Victorious Over the Fennimore Golden Eagles
December 3, 2021
Friday night, the Mineral Point Girls Basketball team had their first conference game against the Fennimore Golden Eagles. To begin, JV2 played in Benton against Benton/Shullsburg and came out with a hard-fought victory that ended up being 30-26. Then, back at home, the JV girls took on Fennimore. Just as in the previous games, the Pointers won with ease, winning 50-8. Leading Scorers were Eliza Ingwell with 18 points and Morgan Lee added 10. Finally, to finish off the night, the varsity girls took on the Golden Eagles. With losing to them in their last regular-season game last year, the girls knew they had to come out strong. To no surprise, that’s what they did, the Pointers defeated the Golden Eagles 79-34. Blair Watters was at the top of the scoring list dropping 16 points, followed by Mallory Lindsey and Kennedy Wenger both with 15. Coach Mike Keyes explained in the locker room that although it wasn’t our best defensive game, we still excelled in other aspects of the game. However, as he always says, “Never be satisfied with where you are at.” Travel down to Platteville Tuesday night to see your Pointer girls take on Miners and show up in your coach outfit!
