December 29/30, 2021

Over the Christmas break, your very own Mineral Point girls varsity basketball team traveled over to Evansville to battle two teams: the Evansville Blue Devils and the Brodhead Cardinals. Coming into the tournament, the girls studied the two teams in their film sessions trying to learn the game plan for future games. Coming into the first game against the Blue Devils on Wednesday night, the girls knew it was another opportunity to make a statement. Although they finished off the first half down, the Pointers came up with the win against Evansville with a score of 66-53. Leading scorers were Mallory Lindsey with 24 points, Kennedy Wenger with 15 points, and Blair Watters with 10 points. Mallory Lindsey connected on 5 three-pointers. The next day was certainly a big game. Your #2 ranked Pointers faced the #3 ranked Cardinals in a hard-fought battle. Before the game, the coaching staff said the same thing: two great teams going head to head, one’s going to make a statement. The past week the girls have been going at it, working on drills that will cross over to that game. One team was going to have to make enough plays to beat the other one out, and sure enough, our girls did just that. The game went back and forth, one team edging out in front of the other constantly. However, in the end, they pulled out the win with a score of 47-44. Leading scorers were Mallory Lindsey and Blair Watters with 15 points. Junior Katelyn Cox comments, “. With a couple more months left in the season, the girls’ basketball team hopes to keep going in the direction that they are in but knows to never be satisfied. Thursday night the girls will play home against the Riverdale Chieftains, so come out and cheer them on! Theme: 80’s
