On Monday, January 24, 2022, the Dodge-Point-Iowa-Grant gymnastics team traveled to Hazel Green to compete in a dual meet against the co-op Southwestern/ Cuba City/ Benton/ Darlington. Both JV and Varsity teams beat the co-op. The JV team was rilled up after they learned they got their all-time high team score, with a score of 109.45! Varsity also got an improved score of 126.3. For Varsity, senior Ashlie Baumgartner placed 5th on bars and beam; She also placed 4th on vault and 6th in the all-around. Freshman Ally Baehler placed 3rd for beam. On JV, sophomore Malea Aschliman placed 5th on bars and floor, and on vault, she placed 4th; In a combined all-around of JV and Varsity, she placed 6th. Junior Alana Dubois placed on the floor and sophomore Erica Lease placed in all-around.

When asked about what led to their team’s huge success at the meet, Baumgartner said, “Our team has been struggling the last few meets with nerves. Our coach cracked down after losing to Prairie du Chien and created a new system at practice. This system has dramatically changed the way our team competes and handles the meet pressure. We had a BIG 10 announcer come and speak to us Thursday at practice and he gave the team many pointers on how to handle meet jitters and stay focused. A big one was to imagine perfecting every skill in your routine. If you imagine that skill done flawlessly, you will perform it just like that. This is something I have told the team all season and it will forever stick with us.”
