Pointer Wrestling Places 3rd at SWC/SWAL Clash

Saturday morning the Mineral Point wrestling team headed up to Prarie du Chien to participate in the SWC/SWAL conference tournament. Both JV and Varsity wrestlers had action at this tournament. To start off the day, JV took action. Colton Dochnal at 145 lost in the quarterfinals from a pin at 2 minutes and 29 seconds. Freshman Lennon Ewert and Sophmore Quinten Kite wrestled at 106 and 132 both placing 4th in their brackets. Jarvie Nafzger put up a good fight in his bracket making it to the semifinals. He ended up placing 3rd. Quenten Gunderson pushed his way right to the finals. Gunderson met up with a challenge and ended up falling with a pin at 5:19. To wrap up JV action, Colbi Carey Placed 1st with two pins and one major decision with a score of 12 – 3.

Roen Carey started out varsity action wrestling at 106. Carey met up with many challenges on Saturday, but he battled through them. Carey ended up making it right to the finals. The crowd roared with excitement as time ran out just for Carey to become the 106 champion. Freshman Kade Rule took on opponents at 113. Rule had to make a statement right off the bat, and he did! Rule pushed his way to the finals and wrestled right to the champion title in a very exciting match with a score of 2 – 1. Lucus Sullivan wrestled at 126. Sullivan met some competition here, but there was no doubt he would win. Sullivan, just like the others, made it to the finals. Sullivan had a very nerve-racking match against Brett Birchman from Fennimore. The Mineral Point section cheered as loud as they could for Sullivan as he earned Mineral Point’s 3rd champion at the tournament! Senior Trapper Nafzger wrestled at 132 pushing his way right on the bracket. Nafzger had a great first match and ended up making it to the 3rd placing match. Nafzger knew that he had this match in the bag and took 3rd place right from his opponent’s hands. Next at 138, Tarrin Riley rolled right through his bracket to the finals. Riley was in the finals against a previous opponent. Riley knew that this was his time to shine and he became Mineral Point’s 4th champion. Ross Lindsey took the 145 weight. Lindsey met a lot of competition here, but he knew he could use it as an opportunity to learn so many more skills before the state tournaments. Lindsey ended up taking home 4th place. Hayden Bakken had many challenges at the 152 weight mark. Bakken had a rough start but didn’t go down without a fight. Bakken took 7th place and left all of his energy on the mat. Junior Jimmy Tibbits took on opponents at 160. Tibbits started off strong but ran into many challenges. Tibbits brought home 6th place and continued developing many skills that he is working on before the upcoming events. Bo Hanson wrestled at 170 had 3 great matches in the day. Hanson used so many techniques to make his way to the finals giving Mineral Point another champion by winning with a score of 5-2. Freshman Alan James participated in the 182 weight bracket but unfortunately got eliminated after two tough losses. Will Shute started off his competition losing at 185 but had a very exciting match after the loss. Shute ended up placing 8th in the tournament and bring home many skills. The Mineral Point Wrestling Team brought home 5 champions from the tournament and many things to work on. To top it off, Lucus Sullivan received the Most Valuable Wrestler award at the tournament.
