Naps

You all know that feeling when you take a nap in the afternoon, and when you wake up you have no idea what in the world is going on? It’s probably the most discombobulating thing to happen. It’s happened to me at least 3 times in the last 2 weeks. In my opinion, naps should exist with no underlying consequences. When I wake up from a two-hour nap in the evening I shouldn’t have to worry about the fact that I might not “get any sleep” later that night. Or that I might wake up with my dog “3 inches from my face” because the living room couch is eminent domain and she wants to play.

What I’m saying is, like many other things in life, naps need to not have consequences. Isn’t taking a nap better? I was always told as a kid to take a nap, and I never wanted to. Now I want to but it screws up my sleep schedule. What is this!? It makes me want to invent time travel and slap my younger self in the face. I’ll teach him that taking those naps in kindergarten is important.

Huh, this column started with my remarks on evening naps and turned into time travel. But what else would you expect from me? I would love to dive deeper into time travel, but that’s a column for another week.
