Florida Couple Reaches Custody Agreement After Major IVF Embryo Mix-Up

ORLANDO, FL – A Florida couple who discovered their newborn daughter was not genetically related to them due to a fertility clinic mix-up has successfully reached a confidential custody agreement with the child’s biological parents.

The Shocking Discovery

Tiffany Score and Steven Mills welcomed their daughter, Shea, via in vitro fertilization (IVF) in December 2025. However, subsequent DNA tests revealed a devastating error: the embryo implanted at their fertility clinic was not theirs.

After going public with their story to locate the biological parents, the couple has now finalized a “mutually devised” custody arrangement. According to court filings, Score and Mills will retain full rights as the permanent custodial parents of Shea.

‘Selfless Love’ Guides Custody Deal

In a statement released on Monday, June 22, 2026, Score’s sister, Alexa, shared updates on the family’s emotional journey.

“The agreement came from a place of selfless love from all individuals, and I am so truly proud of everyone involved,” Alexa stated, adding that the family is filled with relief and gratitude as they focus on raising Shea.

The identity of the genetic parents remains strictly confidential to protect the privacy of the child.

Investigation and Legal Battles Continue

While custody has been settled, both families are demanding accountability. Score and Mills filed a lawsuit last year against the Fertility Center of Orlando and Dr. Milton McNichol.

The genetic parents have also retained legal counsel and plan to file a civil suit in the coming months. The fertility clinic has since ceased operations.
