Child Airlifted After Critical Shooting Incident at Hopkinsville Residence

A late-night emergency response unfolded in Hopkinsville on Monday after a child suffered a life-threatening gunshot injury inside a residence on East 9th Street.

Authorities say crews from the Hopkinsville Fire Department, along with officers from the Hopkinsville Police Department, were dispatched to the 1000 block of East 9th Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. following reports that a child had been shot inside the home.

When first responders arrived, they located a child with a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency medical personnel immediately began life-saving treatment at the scene before transporting the child in critical condition to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

Given the severity of the injuries, arrangements were quickly made for an air medical transfer. A helicopter transported the child to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, where specialized pediatric trauma teams are equipped to handle complex and critical cases.

Investigators have not released the child’s age or additional identifying details. Detectives are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Early information suggests the possibility that the incident may have been accidental, though authorities have emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.
