SANTA CLARITA, CA – A Canyon Country family got an unexpected surprise Friday morning when their Ring doorbell camera alerted them to a massive black bear wandering across their front porch.
The Surprise Visit
The animal was caught on camera just after 9 a.m. on Friday, May 15, approaching the front door of the Hooker family’s home.
Family members stated they initially assumed the early morning Ring notification was simply a package delivery. Instead, the footage revealed the large bear checking out their entrance before calmly walking away.
Spotted In Canyon Country
The family shared that they had heard rumors of a bear sighting in nearby Valencia earlier in the week, but never expected the animal to show up in their own neighborhood.
“I thought it was like a joke or like AI or something,” said Addy, the daughter who lives in the home, recalling her initial shock upon opening the video alert.
Sheriff’s Department Responds
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that deputies responded to multiple calls regarding bear sightings throughout the Santa Clarita area on Friday.
Wildlife officials are monitoring the situation, but authorities confirmed that no injuries or significant property damage have been reported.
Local Safety Reminders
With bear activity rising in residential areas bordering the foothills, local officials are reminding residents to:
- Secure all trash cans and outdoor bins.
- Avoid leaving pet food outside overnight.
- Keep a safe distance and call authorities immediately if a bear is spotted.
