FAIRFIELD, CA – A celebratory evening turned into tragedy Wednesday night when a shooting in a high school graduation parking lot left an 18-year-old dead and three others, including a child, injured.
Shooting Follows Commencement Ceremony
The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Sem Yeto High School’s graduation ceremony, which was being hosted at the Fairfield High School campus.
According to a spokesperson for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, the gunfire erupted just after the graduation ceremony had concluded.
Casualties and Victims Identified
Responding officers located four gunshot victims at the scene:
- An 18-year-old was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
- An 11-year-old child was hospitalized with injuries.
- Two adults, aged 20 and 25, were also rushed to local hospitals.
The current medical conditions and the severity of the injuries for the three surviving victims have not been released by health officials.
Manhunt for Suspect Underway
The Fairfield Police Department, with assistance from the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez confirmed via social media that a search is actively underway for the shooter. As of Thursday morning, authorities have not released a suspect description or a potential motive.
School Operations to Continue
Sem Yeto is a continuation high school that shares its campus with Fairfield High School. School district officials confirmed that classes and scheduled activities will continue through the remainder of the week.
