Okeechobee County, Florida — A Florida family has filed a lawsuit against Campbell’s and Walmart after alleging that a can of SpaghettiOs they purchased contained living worms or parasites, causing illness and emotional distress.
The lawsuit claims the food product was contaminated and unsafe for consumption, leading to health complications for both a mother and her young daughter.
Family Claims They Found Moving Worms in Food
According to a complaint filed in federal court, Mary Hubbard discovered the alleged contamination on June 6, 2024, while eating SpaghettiOs with her daughter, identified in court documents as P.L.
The lawsuit alleges that after opening and consuming part of the product, the family noticed unusual activity inside the food.
According to the complaint, there “appeared to be worms or parasites actively moving within the food.”
The filing further states that Hubbard recorded videos of what she believed were living organisms inside the pasta product.
The complaint alleges the recordings “clearly depict worm-like organisms moving within the food product.”
Product Purchased at Walmart
Court documents state that Hubbard purchased the SpaghettiOs from a Walmart store in Florida.
As a result, both Campbell’s and Walmart have been named as defendants in the lawsuit.
The family claims the food product was defective and unfit for human consumption.
The lawsuit further alleges that the contamination caused significant physical illness and emotional suffering after the family consumed the product.
Family Alleges Serious Health Problems
According to the complaint, both Hubbard and her daughter became sick after eating the SpaghettiOs.
The lawsuit claims the mother and daughter suffered parasitic infections linked to the alleged contamination.
Court records state that Hubbard experienced gastrointestinal illness and sepsis, while her daughter reportedly suffered from nausea and vomiting.
The family is seeking financial compensation for the alleged injuries and damages resulting from the incident.
At this stage, the allegations remain claims made in the lawsuit and have not been proven in court.
Campbell’s Declines to Comment
When asked about the lawsuit, Campbell’s reportedly declined to discuss the matter publicly.
The company stated it does not comment on pending litigation.
Attorneys representing the plaintiffs have not publicly released additional details regarding medical testing or evidence beyond the allegations included in the complaint.
The lawsuit seeks at least $75,000 in damages, citing alleged negligence and violations of federal food safety laws.
P.L.’s father has also joined the lawsuit as a plaintiff.
Case Moves Through Federal Court
The legal action was filed in Fort Pierce, Florida federal court and assigned to Aileen Cannon.
Food contamination lawsuits are not uncommon in the United States, particularly when consumers allege illness after consuming packaged products.
The filing also references previous food safety concerns involving Campbell’s products. In April 2025, federal officials issued a public health alert involving several soup products that potentially contained wood fragments in a regulated ingredient.
The current lawsuit, however, centers specifically on allegations involving SpaghettiOs and claims of worms or parasites in the product.
The case remains ongoing, and no court has yet determined whether the allegations are valid.
