Beloved 'Nurse Solomon' Fatally Shot In Downtown Oakland Robbery

OAKLAND, CA – A registered nurse and popular social media health educator was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in downtown Oakland, leading to murder charges against a convicted felon.

The Fatal Confrontation

The incident occurred shortly after 2:45 a.m. on May 31 near the intersection of 14th and Harrison streets. Oakland police officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered 33-year-old Lartey Solomon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Solomon was rushed to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to family members, Solomon and a friend were leaving a nearby nightclub and walking toward their vehicles when a man approached them. The suspect demanded a chain Solomon was wearing around his neck before opening fire.

Suspect Arrested and Charged

Authorities arrested Shacory Carnell Daniels, 39, of Vallejo, on June 4 in Menlo Park.

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has officially charged Daniels with:

  • Murder
  • Attempted robbery
  • Personal and intentional discharge of a firearm
  • Being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition

Court records reveal Daniels has prior felony convictions across Alameda, Contra Costa, and Orange counties. He appeared for his arraignment at the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland and is currently being held without bail. His plea hearing is scheduled for June 30.

Community Mourns Loss of ‘Nurse Solomon’

Solomon’s death has triggered widespread grief both locally and online. Known to more than 20,000 TikTok followers as “Nurse Solomon,” he used his platform to share accessible medical advice and health education.

Born and raised in Ghana before moving to the United States, Solomon graduated from Merritt College and earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Samuel Merritt University. He worked locally as a registered nurse at Alameda Health Care and Kindred Hospital in San Leandro.

An online fundraiser has been organized by his family to support his young children and relatives.
