SAN DIEGO, CA – A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in downtown San Diego early Monday morning, an incident that has heightened local safety concerns.
The Fatal Stabbing and Arrest
San Diego Police responded to the intersection of C and Union streets, near the San Diego Central Courthouse, around 1:00 a.m. following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers found a man in his 30s or 40s suffering from severe wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died.
The entire altercation was captured on surveillance video, allowing detectives to quickly launch a search for a suspect dressed in dark clothing.
A Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) security guard later spotted a man matching the description at the Imperial Avenue Trolley Station, located about a mile and a half from the crime scene. Police arrested the suspect, identified as Conrad Waldron, 22. Investigators believe the victim and the suspect did not know each other.
Growing Neighborhood Concerns
The incident occurred roughly a mile away from another separate death investigation being conducted near 13th and F streets in East Village. The back-to-back police activity has sparked anxiety among downtown residents regarding safety in the area.
Local resident Jessica Culp expressed her unease, stating that recent events have made her reconsider her living arrangements and whether she will renew her lease downtown or move back toward North County.
Investigation Continues
Detectives are continuing to review video footage and interview witnesses. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending family notification. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the San Diego Police Department.
