Arrest Made After Koreatown Shooting Near World Cup Watch Party

LOS ANGELES, CA – A suspect is in custody following a shooting in Koreatown Thursday evening that left one person hospitalized and triggered a city-wide tactical alert by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Chaos Near World Cup Watch Party

The incident began around 6:40 p.m. near Irolo Street and James M Wood Boulevard, close to where a large crowd had gathered to watch the World Cup match between Mexico and South Korea.

Initial reports to the LAPD indicated a person was firing a gun into the air. Shortly after, additional calls came in reporting a physical fight between a suspect and a group of people near James M Wood Boulevard and Normandie Avenue.

One Hospitalized, Suspect Detained

During the altercation, the suspect fired multiple rounds at an individual. The victim was rushed to a local hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.

Responding officers quickly located the suspect, who was taken into custody without further incident. The individual is expected to face felony assault charges. Authorities noted it remains unclear if either the shooter or the victim had attended the nearby soccer watch party.

LAPD Issues City-Wide Tactical Alert

Following the conclusion of the game, the LAPD issued a city-wide tactical alert. This measure allowed the department to reallocate additional officers to Koreatown to manage crowd control as fans spilled into the streets.

While the tactical alert remained in place late into the night, officials confirmed that as of 10:30 p.m., no arrests had been made regarding crowd dispersal issues or vandalism.
