CHICAGO, IL – Chicago police have issued a community alert after a string of unique burglaries where thieves tunneled through drywall to rob local businesses.
The Method of Entry
According to the Chicago Police Department, the thieves managed to steal cellphones, clothing, and shoes from three separate businesses this month. Instead of breaking through front doors or windows, the suspects gained entry by cutting through the drywall from adjacent vacant properties.
Timeline and Locations
The targeted businesses span multiple South Side neighborhoods. Detectives have linked the following three incidents:
- Roseland: Around 12:00 a.m. on June 2 on the 300 block of East 103rd Street.
- Beverly: Around 2:00 a.m. on June 22 on the 2300 block of West 95th Street.
- Washington Heights: Around 2:30 a.m. on June 23 on the 10300 block of South Halsted Street.
Investigation and Tips
Chicago police have not yet released descriptions of the suspects involved. Local business owners, especially those sharing walls with vacant storefronts, are being urged to remain vigilant and review their security footage.
