Oxnard Woman Arrested After Pointing Loaded Handgun At Victim

OXNARD, CA – A 60-year-old woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after she allegedly threatened an individual with a loaded handgun outside an Oxnard residence.

Armed Confrontation on Browning Drive

The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday on the 4200 block of Browning Drive. The Oxnard Police Department responded to reports of an assault at the cul-de-sac.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Janet Sawyer, exited her residence, pointed a firearm directly at the victim, and then went back inside her home.

Surrender and Firearm Seizure

Responding officers surrounded the home and managed to negotiate with Sawyer. She complied with commands, stepped outside, and surrendered to police without further incident.

Following her arrest, officers searched the residence and seized a loaded .40 caliber handgun. Sawyer has been charged with assault with a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing. Oxnard Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the confrontation or has surveillance footage from the neighborhood to contact them at (805) 385-7600.
