SAN JOSE, CA – A Sunday night shooting in the heart of downtown San Jose left one person dead and another fighting for their life, triggering a massive police response and road closures.
The Incident
San Jose Police Department (SJPD) officers responded to the intersection of North Market Street and West Santa Clara Street shortly after 9:10 p.m. following multiple reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, emergency crews located two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Downtown Road Closures
Detectives immediately cordoned off the area to preserve evidence and interview witnesses. Authorities closed several surrounding streets and urged the public to avoid the downtown core, advising motorists to utilize alternate routes throughout the night.
Investigation Underway
As of Monday morning, SJPD has not released any information regarding the identity of the victims. No suspect descriptions have been made public, and the motive behind the deadly shooting remains unknown.
