Safe And Sane Fireworks On Sale In Roseville As Fines Increase

ROSEVILLE, CA – The countdown to the Fourth of July has officially begun in Northern California, with “Safe and Sane” fireworks officially going on sale Sunday to large crowds.

Huge Crowds at Roseville Supercenter

At the Fireworks Supercenter in Roseville, a line of more than 100 eager customers wrapped around the block before sales even launched at noon. This year’s celebrations carry extra weight as vendors note the country marks a historic milestone.

To help families celebrate during the holiday weekend, major distributor TNT announced they are lowering prices on select items. Sellers also highlighted new tech updates in this year’s inventory, including laser lights and glowing orbs.

The “Safe and Sane” Rule

Californians are legally required to purchase fireworks only from state-sanctioned booths. Every legal item carries a specific seal of approval from the State Fire Marshal.

Sacramento Metro Fire officials emphasized that these specific products are strictly designed to stay on the ground and are prohibited from launching into the air to prevent fast-moving wildfires.

Drones and $1,000 Fines for Violators

Local fire crews are ramping up enforcement drastically this year to prevent a repeat of last holiday season, when Sacramento Metro Fire responded to 53 fireworks-related blazes—an 18% jump over the previous year.

Authorities issued a strict warning regarding illegal fireworks for this season:

  • Starting Fine: Citations begin at $1,000.
  • Per-Item Penalty: For the first time, a separate fine will be issued for each individual illegal firework set off, with no maximum cap on the total penalty.
  • Drone Patrols: Law enforcement partners are deploying a couple of dozen drones across the region. These drones are equipped to pinpoint exact locations of illegal activity and record violators for citations.

Due to the high volume of expected incidents, fire departments throughout the region are proactively adjusting their holiday staffing models to handle the peak call volumes on July 4.
