LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – The family of 19-year-old twin brothers found dead on a Georgia mountain last year has announced they accept the official investigation’s conclusion that the teenagers died by suicide.
The Investigation
Qaadir and Naazir Lewis, residents of Lawrenceville, were discovered by hikers at the summit of Bell Mountain in Hiawassee on March 8, 2025.
While the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) initially looked into the case as a potential murder-suicide, a subsequent comprehensive investigation revealed that the injuries causing their deaths were entirely self-inflicted. Investigators later uncovered records showing that Naazir had purchased the ammunition used in the incident just two days prior.
Family Seeks Independent Answers
In a recent update, the twins’ aunt, Yasmine Brawner, shared that the family conducted their own extensive review before accepting the state’s final ruling.
The family retained two independent homicide investigators and obtained independent autopsy reviews to examine the GBI case files thoroughly. Brawner confirmed that all independent findings aligned perfectly with the official state conclusions.
The family expressed deep gratitude to the community for GoFundMe donations, which helped cover burial expenses, independent reviews, and mental health counseling for the grieving relatives.
Honoring Their Memory
Moving forward, the Lewis family stated they are fully committed to honoring the memories of Naazir and Qaadir by actively promoting mental health awareness and supporting suicide prevention initiatives.
