Oakland Sidewalk Crash Suspect Faces Attempted Murder Charges

OAKLAND, CA – An intentional act of extreme violence on an Oakland sidewalk has led to attempted murder charges against a local driver, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

The Sidewalk Attack

The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. on May 3 near the intersection of 18th Street and Telegraph Avenue. Authorities state that a driver deliberately accelerated onto the sidewalk, plowng directly into a crowd of pedestrians.

According to the District Attorney’s office, approximately eight people were struck and injured during the collision, with several victims sustaining serious injuries.

Suspect Identified

Officials have identified the suspect as Dameon Denzel Clay. Investigators state that after hitting the crowd, Clay crashed his vehicle into a nearby gate, abandoned the car, and fled the scene on foot.

“This case involves an intentional act of extreme violence in which the defendant drove his car onto a sidewalk, striking multiple victims and causing serious injuries,” said Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson in an official statement.

Legal Proceedings

Following his arrest, Clay has been officially charged with attempted murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday for his formal arraignment.
