Mass Casualty Declared After Bus Crashes Into Pikesville FedEx Building

PIKESVILLE, MD – Officials have declared a mass casualty event in Pikesville after a massive multi-vehicle crash involving a Maryland Transportation Administration (MTA) bus left dozens injured and created a scene described by authorities as “resembling a war zone.”

The Collision and Emergency Response

The catastrophic incident occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. Baltimore County Fire Chief Joe Dixon confirmed that the crash involved approximately 12 vehicles and spans a large area across several local streets.

During the collision, an MTA bus veered off course and crashed directly into a commercial building occupied by FedEx. Over 100 first responders and at least 15 ambulances rushed to the scene to rescue trapped passengers and treat the victims.

Casualties and Hospitalizations

The Baltimore County Fire Department confirmed that at least 33 people have been transported to local medical facilities. Among the injured:

  • One critical patient who required immediate airlifting to a specialized trauma center.
  • Dozens of others suffering from varying degrees of injuries.

Authorities have not yet clarified how many of the injured were inside private vehicles versus how many were aboard the MTA bus.

Officials Respond to the Scene

Maryland Governor Wes Moore issued a statement confirming that his administration is closely monitoring the unfolding situation on the ground. “We are deeply grateful for our first responders who acted with speed and skill to ensure the safety of our neighbors,” Governor Moore said.

Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones urged community members to completely avoid the area to give emergency crews the necessary space to operate safely.

The cause of the multi-vehicle pileup remains under active investigation by local law enforcement.
