A peaceful Sunday afternoon at the Oregon coast turned into a frightening scene when a parking lot crash quickly escalated into violence, leaving a pregnant woman injured and her husband hospitalized with a stab wound.
Authorities say the incident unfolded around 1 p.m. in the Wayside parking area in Rockaway Beach. A pregnant woman was walking with her husband while carrying their 2-year-old son when a silver Jeep Patriot struck her in the parking lot.
Witnesses reported that the vehicle stopped briefly after the collision. The woman’s husband approached the driver to address what had just happened. What began as a confrontation over the crash rapidly spiraled out of control.
According to investigators, a male passenger exited the Jeep during the exchange and stabbed the husband in the back with a weapon. The sudden attack stunned onlookers and created chaos in the busy area.
After the stabbing, the suspect jumped back into the SUV, and the vehicle left the scene. A short distance away, the female driver allegedly stopped and returned to the parking lot on foot, while the male passenger fled on foot in an attempt to avoid arrest.
Deputies responding to the scene quickly gathered information from witnesses. During the search, authorities learned that the suspect had tried to evade detection by changing his clothing. He was located a short time later and taken into custody without further incident.
The 25-year-old suspect now faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to appear in court in early April.
Despite the terrifying nature of the incident, officials confirmed that the pregnant mother and her toddler suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Both are expected to recover. The husband was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his stab wound and is also expected to make a full recovery.
