New Jersey Man Charged With Bias Intimidation After Video of Parking Lot Meltdown Hits 1.5 Million Views

Mount Laurel, New Jersey — A heated confrontation between two parents inside a luxury apartment complex in Mount Laurel has gone viral online and led to criminal charges after authorities accused a local father of making racially charged remarks during the argument.

The incident, which reportedly began as a dispute involving allegations of bullying between children, quickly escalated into a screaming match that was captured on video by nearby residents.

Viral Video Captures Heated Parking Lot Argument

According to reports, the confrontation happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday inside an upscale apartment development in Mount Laurel.

Video footage recorded by neighbors shows 40-year-old Thomas Diiorio angrily confronting Lakisha Spruill in the middle of a parking lot while shouting profanities.

“Get the f–k out of here,” Diiorio could be heard yelling in the now-viral clip.

Witnesses said the confrontation became increasingly intense as Diiorio approached Spruill while repeatedly shouting at her.

“Get in your car,” Diiorio repeatedly yelled as Spruill responded by asking, “somebody call the cops.”

The footage rapidly spread online after being posted Tuesday morning and has since received more than 1.5 million views.

Dispute Allegedly Stemmed From Bullying Claims

Authorities said the argument was connected to a “prior juvenile incident” involving the pair’s children.

Spruill alleged that her daughter had been bullied by Diiorio’s children and claimed they recently referred to her child as an “ugly African.”

According to Spruill, she approached Diiorio to discuss the ongoing conflict between the children, but the conversation escalated into a hostile confrontation.

Court documents reportedly state that Diiorio referred to Spruill and other Black people as “you people” during the encounter.

“During the interaction, the defendant used the phrase ‘you people’ while talking to the victim. Mr. Diiorio clarified that he was referring to black people when he said it – because he never seems to have these problems with white people,” according to court records.

Spruill also accused Diiorio of using racial slurs and allegedly calling her a “black bitch” during the argument.

Police Investigation Leads to Arrest

Mount Laurel Police initially responded to the disturbance and separated the two individuals involved. At first, authorities said neither side wanted to pursue criminal charges.

However, police later reopened the investigation after receiving video footage connected to the incident.

“During follow-up investigative efforts, detectives reviewed video footage submitted to the department on May 20, 2026,” police said. “The footage showed Thomas Diiorio, 40, of Mount Laurel, confronting the female victim during the incident.”

Following the review of the evidence, Diiorio was arrested Wednesday and charged with harassment and bias intimidation.

Diiorio Denies Racial Motivation

Despite the allegations, Diiorio has denied that the confrontation was racially motivated.

Responding to comments online after the video spread across social media, he reportedly wrote:

“Had nothing to do with the color of this woman’s skin.”

Authorities have not announced whether additional charges could be filed as the case moves forward through the court system.

Court Appearance and Community Reaction

Diiorio appeared in Burlington County Superior Court on Thursday. He was later released from custody but ordered to avoid contact with the alleged victim.

Court records show he is scheduled to return to court on July 15.

The case has sparked widespread discussion online and within the local community, particularly due to previous racial incidents reported in the township.

Mount Laurel Mayor Stephen Steglik publicly praised law enforcement for acting quickly after the footage surfaced.

“They wasted no time in contacting the victim and making sure the man in the video was apprehended,” Steglik wrote on Facebook. “To put it simply: If you’re going to be a vile, hate filled lunatic, do it somewhere else – not in Mount Laurel!”
