OAKLAND, CA – A prominent Bay Area nurse and popular social media health influencer was tragically shot and killed during an alleged armed robbery in downtown Oakland late last month, officials announced.
The Incident
Lartey Solomon, 33, widely known on TikTok and YouTube as “Nurse Solomon,” was killed on May 31 near the intersection of Harrison and 14th streets.
Oakland police officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly before 3:00 a.m. in the 1400 block of Harrison Street. First responders located Solomon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Robbery Turns Fatal
According to family members, Solomon and a friend were leaving a nearby nightclub when a suspect, identified as 39-year-old Shacory Carnell Daniels, confronted him and demanded the chain he was wearing.
Relatives stated that Solomon appeared willing to comply and hand over his belongings before the suspect opened fire.
Community Mourns “Nurse Solomon”
Solomon worked at several healthcare facilities across Alameda County and used his digital platforms to simplify complex medical topics for over 20,000 followers, generating more than 1 million views. Loved ones described him as a devoted father, mentor, and healthcare advocate who aspired to become a physician.
A community fundraiser has been established to assist with funeral expenses and support Solomon’s young daughter.
Suspect in Custody
Oakland police apprehended Daniels on June 4. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has officially charged Daniels with:
- Murder
- Attempted robbery
- Multiple related felony offenses
Daniels remains in custody without bail and is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment on June 30.
