South Philadelphia House Fire Leaves Woman Dead, Child Critical

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA, PA – A tragic early morning house fire on Friday in South Philadelphia has claimed the life of a 49-year-old woman and left a young girl fighting for her life.

Fatal Friday Morning Blaze

Emergency crews responded to reports of a structure fire at approximately 4:45 a.m. on the 2600 block of S. Mildred Street. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the residential property.

Crews launched an aggressive attack and managed to bring the fire under control by 5:15 a.m., but not before severe damage was done.

Casualties Reported

According to Philadelphia Fire Department officials, two victims were pulled from the burning home:

  • The Child: A young girl, estimated to be between 3 and 5 years old, was rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She remains in critical condition.
  • The Woman: A 49-year-old woman was transported to Jefferson Hospital, where she was tragically pronounced dead at 5:35 a.m.

Investigation Ongoing

The identity of the victims has not yet been publicly released, and the exact relationship between the woman and the child has not been confirmed.

The cause of the fatal blaze remains under active investigation by the Philadelphia Fire Marshal’s Office.
