EWING TOWNSHIP, NJ – An investigation remains active months after a high-speed police pursuit in Mercer County ended in a horrific crash that claimed the life of a young child.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office recently released surveillance and dashcam footage detailing the fatal chain of events.
The Stolen Vehicle Pursuit
The incident began around 6:24 p.m. on December 19, 2025, when Ewing Township Police received reports of a stolen white Kia near Clover Avenue. Officer Edward Lester spotted the vehicle and followed it for several blocks.
Upon reaching Coolidge and Pennington avenues, Officer Lester activated his emergency lights. The driver of the Kia refused to pull over, sparking a pursuit that was soon joined by Ewing Officers Charles Wyckoff and Jason Ulrich. Dashcam video captures the stolen Kia fleeing at a very high speed and driving erratically.
Tragic Intersection Collision
The chase culminated in a violent crash at the intersection of Prospect Street and Parkway Avenue. Footage shows the white Kia running a red light and slamming into a red Subaru occupied by four people.
The impact caused the Subaru to spin multiple times. Following the initial collision, the Kia crashed into a traffic light pole, which collapsed onto both the Kia and Officer Lester’s police cruiser.
Casualties and Ongoing Probe
A child passenger inside the Subaru was ejected from the vehicle due to the force of the crash. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to their injuries.
The other three occupants of the Subaru, Officer Lester, and the driver of the Kia were all treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Because the fatal crash involved a police pursuit, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is leading the ongoing investigation to review the actions of the officers involved.
