Two Dead, Child Injured In Chico Library Shooting

CHICO, CA – A gunman opened fire inside the Butte County Library on Monday evening, leaving two adults dead and a child injured before being taken into custody by law enforcement.

Chaos Inside the Library

The Chico Police Department responded to multiple frantic 911 calls reporting gunshots and screaming at the library on Sherman Avenue at 5:12 p.m.

Officers arrived at the scene within six minutes. As law enforcement entered through the front doors, the suspect attempted to escape through the back of the building. However, officers had already established a secure perimeter and took the suspect into custody without further incident.

Casualties Reported

Chico Police confirmed two adult fatalities inside the building.

A child who sustained injuries during the incident was transported to Enloe Hospital. Officials have stated that the child’s injuries are non-life-threatening.

Investigation and Federal Assistance

The identities of the suspected shooter and the victims have not yet been released. Police expect to name the victims on Tuesday morning following family notifications.

The FBI’s Sacramento office is actively assisting Chico Police with the ongoing investigation. Authorities currently believe the shooter acted alone, and no motive has been established.
