PORTLAND, OR – An Oregon man has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison following a terrifying multi-victim crime spree in Southeast Portland that included a home invasion and attempted sexual assault.
The Sentencing
On June 18, Multnomah County Circuit Judge Celia Howes sentenced Judson Defir, 43, to 22 years in prison.
The sentencing follows a trial where Defir was found guilty of multiple severe charges, including first-degree kidnapping, attempted first-degree rape, and multiple counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
The March 15 Crime Spree
According to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, the charges stem from a series of fast-moving incidents targeting four different women in a single day:
- Church Incident: Defir first entered a local church during services and assaulted a woman who was with her children. Her screams alerted the congregation, forcing him to flee.
- Home Invasion: Shortly after, Defir broke into a nearby home. He cornered a mother upstairs who was holding her 10-month-old infant. Defir physically assaulted the woman, but she managed to fight back, secure her children in a bedroom, and scream for help from a balcony.
- Street Assaults: After fleeing the home, Defir assaulted a third woman walking down the street and attempted to grab a fourth woman while exposing himself.
Community Intervention and Arrest
The neighborhood quickly rallied together to stop the suspect. When Portland Police Bureau officers arrived at the scene, they found a crowd of approximately 15 local residents actively tracking and pointing out Defir, leading to his immediate arrest.
Official Statements
Senior Deputy District Attorney Melissa Marrero emphasized that the 22-year sentence ensures long-term safety for the victims and accountability for actions that devastated a close-knit community.
Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez praised the incredible strength of the victims and the way the community united to protect one another.
