Frisco, Texas- A tragic sledding accident in Frisco, Texas, has claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl and left another teenager critically injured, prompting renewed calls for safety and caution during winter activities.
What Happened
According to Frisco Police, officers and emergency responders were called around 2:30 p.m. Sunday to the area near Majestic Gardens Drive and Killian Court after an uninvolved caller reported a serious incident.
Preliminary findings indicate that two 16-year-old girls were riding on a sled being pulled by a Jeep Wrangler, which was driven by a 16-year-old boy. Witnesses told police that while traveling through the neighborhood, the sled hit a curb and then crashed into a tree, resulting in catastrophic injuries.
A neighbor, Melissa Trevino, described the moments leading up to the emergency response:
“It’s kind of shocking. My neighbor saw a Jeep pulling some kids on a sled, and a few minutes later there were multiple police cars, caution tape, and it was clear something terrible had happened.”
Emergency Response and Injuries
When Frisco Police and Fire Departments arrived on the scene, both teenage girls were found with life-threatening injuries. First responders immediately administered life-saving aid before transporting them to nearby hospitals.
Despite medical efforts, one of the girls later died from her injuries, while the second victim remains in critical condition, according to authorities.
Doorbell Video Timeline
Investigators are also reviewing doorbell camera footage from the area. The video reportedly shows the Jeep pulling the sled as it turns a corner and proceeds down a residential street.
Police say the vehicle then exits the camera’s view. At approximately 2:26 p.m., about one minute after the video was recorded, the accident is believed to have occurred. The exact sequence of events leading to the collision remains under investigation.
Victim Identified
On Monday, Megan Angle identified the deceased victim as her daughter, Elizabeth Angle, through a heartfelt social media post.
Elizabeth was a sophomore at Wakeland High School and an active soccer player, remembered by family and friends as a joyful and courageous young woman.
“She was a bright light, a fun spirit, a brave soul. She had just gotten her car and her license and had her whole life ahead of her. It was all taken away so abruptly,” Angle wrote. “Life is fleeting and precious.”
Angle also shared that the second injured teen, who remains hospitalized in critical condition, was one of Elizabeth’s closest friends.
Community Response and Vigil Planned
The loss has deeply impacted the Wakeland High School community. School officials confirmed that when classes resume, Elizabeth’s death will be acknowledged during second period, and grief counselors will be available to support students and staff.
A vigil is also planned later this week, allowing friends, classmates, and community members to come together to honor Elizabeth’s life and support those affected by the tragedy.
Safety Message from the Family
In the wake of the accident, Megan Angle emphasized the importance of safety while having fun, urging parents and teens to think carefully about risky activities, even those that may seem harmless.
Her message has resonated widely, as families across North Texas reflect on the dangers associated with being pulled on sleds or other objects behind vehicles.
Investigation Ongoing
The incident remains under active investigation by the Frisco Police Department, with assistance from the Denton County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities have not yet announced whether criminal charges will be filed.
Officials say additional details will be released as investigators continue to review evidence, witness statements, and video footage.
