SoCal Fugitive Arrested In Mexico Following Deadly Riverside County Shooting

NORTH SHORE, CA – A 50-year-old Indio man who fled the country after a fatal weekend shooting in Riverside County has been captured in Mexico and returned to California to face murder charges.

The Deadly Shooting

The incident occurred just after midnight on Sunday, June 28. Riverside County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon on the 98000 block of Surfside Avenue in the rural community of North Shore.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds:

  • Alberto Padron, 44, of Mecca, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
  • A 43-year-old man was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.

International Arrest

The shooter fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Following an intense investigation, detectives identified Adolfo Lopez Jr. as the primary suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Investigators tracked Lopez Jr. across the border into Mexico. On Thursday, July 2, Mexican authorities located and apprehended him in Mexicali, Baja California.

Lopez Jr. was subsequently turned over to the Riverside County Gang Impact Team at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. He has been booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on murder charges.
