San Antonio, Texas — A woman in Texas has been arrested after authorities say she drove into a barricaded crime scene and ran over the body of a man who had already been killed in a separate crash, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Tionne Spears, was taken into custody on February 27 following the unusual incident on Highway 211 in Bexar County.
Investigators had already been examining the death of a 61-year-old man who was struck by vehicles while walking across a dark roadway when the situation took another unexpected turn.
Victim was hit by two vehicles before police arrived
According to authorities, the incident began when the man was reportedly walking across the highway in low-visibility conditions.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said the victim was difficult for drivers to see while crossing the road.
“He was walking across the dark roadway,” Salazar said while describing the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
Investigators believe the man was first struck by a vehicle that clipped him with its side mirror, knocking him onto the roadway.
Moments later, a second vehicle ran over the victim before the driver had time to react, resulting in the man’s death.
Officials say both drivers involved in the initial collision remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Authorities said they do not suspect any criminal wrongdoing from the drivers involved in the original accident.
Crime scene investigation underway
Following the fatal incident, law enforcement officials secured the area and began investigating the crash.
Investigators blocked off the scene with barricades, while a cover was placed over the victim’s body as officers conducted measurements and documented evidence.
The roadway remained partially closed while authorities carried out the investigation.
Woman allegedly drove through barricades
According to Sheriff Salazar, the situation escalated when a vehicle driven by Spears entered the restricted area despite the barricades.
Authorities said the suspect drove around the barricades and into the active investigation scene.
Officials say Spears’ vehicle ran over the victim’s body, which was still lying on the roadway during the investigation.
Investigators also said her car nearly struck two investigators who were working at the scene, though both officers managed to move out of the way and were not injured.
Authorities suspect intoxication
Law enforcement officials said Spears appeared to be possibly intoxicated at the time of the incident, though toxicology results were still pending.
During the investigation, deputies reportedly discovered a substance believed to be khat, which Sheriff Salazar described as a stimulant.
Authorities said the substance is known to have measurable effects on the human body.
Officials said toxicology testing would determine whether Spears had been under the influence of alcohol or another substance at the time.
Multiple charges filed against suspect
Spears was transported to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center following the incident.
Authorities say she now faces several charges, including:
- Driving while intoxicated
- Abuse of a corpse
- Possession of a controlled substance
Sheriff Salazar described the situation as highly unusual based on his decades of law enforcement experience.
“I’ve been doing this job 33 years now and never heard of somebody barreling through a crime scene like that and running over a dead body that’s already on the roadway,” Salazar said.

Investigation into victim’s actions continues
Authorities are still trying to determine why the victim was walking along the highway at the time of the original crash.
Investigators located a black Chrysler 300 registered to the man nearby, though it remains unclear why he exited the vehicle.
Officials also noted that the victim may have been intoxicated, but that information has not been confirmed.
No additional injuries were reported as a result of the incident involving Spears.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains ongoing as authorities review evidence and await toxicology results.
