“As this initial storm advances through the Great Lakes and into Canada, road closures and travel delays can occur,” AccuWeather stated, noting that a second storm system is already organizing across the Plains to follow a similar path through the weekend.
Tornadoes and 80 MPH Winds Threaten the South and Plains
The holiday weekend isn’t just about the cold. Warmer regions are facing “discrete supercells” capable of producing devastating results. On Thursday, parts of Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan were already under tornado watches as 80 mph winds ripped through the region.
The Weather Channel warns that the threat will intensify through Friday, April 3, particularly in the evening.
- High-Risk Zones: Residents in Des Moines, Iowa, and Kirksville, Missouri, should remain on high alert for tornado activity.
- Ongoing Threat: Severe thunderstorms are forecast to persist through Saturday across the Plains and Midwest, continuing an unusually active and dangerous start to the spring season.
