Fort Worth, Texas — Family members, friends, and fellow car club members are mourning the loss of Dominique Coleman, a Fort Worth security guard who was fatally shot while working a part-time security shift during Mother’s Day weekend.
The tragic killing has left the local community devastated, with loved ones remembering Coleman as a familiar face at car shows and someone whose life ended far too soon.
Friends Remember Car Club Member Killed in Shooting
For fellow Ryderz Car Club member Dale McKnight, memories of Coleman are closely tied to years spent together showing off classic cars at events across Texas.
“It’s a 1986 Chevy Caprice, I’ve owned it for 10 years,” Dale McKnight said while speaking about his vehicle and the bond shared among club members.
Now, every time he starts the engine, he says the loss of Coleman comes rushing back.
“I’ve known him for so long. I just saw him a couple of weeks ago. I heard about this when I woke up Sunday morning,” McKnight said.
Coleman was reportedly working security at Club New Start on Miller Avenue when gunfire erupted nearby.
Deadly Mother’s Day Shooting Under Investigation
According to Fort Worth police, officers responded to reports of gunfire across the street from the club and discovered Coleman along with a second victim who survived the attack.
Investigators say court documents reveal the surviving victim told authorities that the suspect allegedly shot Coleman multiple times before turning the weapon on her.
The affidavit states the suspect then allegedly pistol-whipped the woman before fleeing the scene.
“She sustained non-life-threatening injuries to her shoulder, and she was taken to the hospital,” Fort Worth Police Spokesperson Tracy Carter said.
“He (the suspect) was in the car with a couple of people. And again, thanks to the witnesses and cameras that we have, we may apprehend them.”
Arrests Made Following Deadly Shooting
Fort Worth homicide detectives later identified 21-year-old Dedrian Freeman as the suspected gunman and obtained an arrest warrant charging him with murder.
Police also arrested two additional individuals connected to the investigation.
Authorities said Dadrian Freeman Sr., 46, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, while Dadrian Freeman Jr., 22, was arrested on an unrelated probation violation.
Investigators say the case remains active as detectives continue gathering information and speaking with witnesses.
“Our homicide investigators are going to continue to talk to people. If people have information, we’re asking them to call us, so we can get the exact details of what happened here,” Carter said.
Community Speaks Out Against Gun Violence
The shooting has reignited conversations about senseless violence in Fort Worth communities.
“This is a community that I grew up in, not far from here. But it’s just that we’re seeing people lose their lives to senseless gun violence,” Carter said.
“As I always keep saying, we have to learn emotional intelligence. We should be able to just talk to each other and teach our kids that this is not a way to handle anything.”

Coleman’s friends echoed those same feelings as they struggled to process the tragedy.
“It’s unbelievable. I am at a loss for words, like, for the whole situation,” McKnight said.
“It hurts inside,” Ryderz Car Club President Cliff Sparks said.
Loved Ones Plan Tribute for Coleman
According to Sparks, the Ryderz Car Club is now focused on honoring Coleman’s memory and supporting his grieving family.
After speaking with relatives, Sparks organized a social media event aimed at bringing the community together and encouraging people to reject violence as a solution to conflict.
“It’s heartbreaking to see what his mother is going to have to see her son lying on the ground on Mother’s Day,” Cliff Sparks said.
At the scene of the shooting, another security guard reportedly placed a handheld radio inside a nearby flowerbed as a tribute to Coleman — a quiet but emotional reminder of a life cut short.
