BRIDGEPORT, CT – A 61-year-old local man was killed late Saturday night following a violent collision between a motorized scooter and a car on Huntington Turnpike.
Fatal Collision on Huntington Turnpike
Bridgeport Police officers responded to reports of a serious crash with injuries in the 1200 block of Huntington Turnpike around 8:45 p.m. Dispatchers alerted responding units that at least one driver was unresponsive in the roadway.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and began rendering medical aid to three individuals. Despite their efforts, city officials confirmed that the 61-year-old Bridgeport man operating the motorized scooter succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.
Occupants of Car Hospitalized
The driver and a passenger of the vehicle involved in the crash also sustained injuries. Both were transported by medics to a local hospital. Authorities stated that their injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
Investigation Underway
The Bridgeport Accident Reconstruction Team has taken over the investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Huntington Turnpike was closed for several hours over the weekend while investigators mapped the scene and cleared the wreckage.
