Three Killed In Shooting At Islamic Center Of San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA – A tragic shooting outside the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday left three men dead, including a security guard, before the two teenage suspects were found dead nearby.

Active Shooter at Clairemont Mosque

The San Diego Police Department responded to reports of an active shooter at around 11:43 a.m. Monday at the mosque complex, located in the Clairemont neighborhood.

Upon arrival, officers discovered three deceased men outside the building. Among the victims was a security guard whose quick actions likely prevented the suspects from entering the building and causing further bloodshed, according to San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl.

Suspects Found Dead Nearby

Nearly 100 police officers swarmed the area and searched the facility. The two suspects, identified as ages 17 and 18, were later found dead inside a vehicle a few blocks away.

Police stated that both teens died from what appeared to be self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Community Response and Safety

The Islamic Center of San Diego is the largest mosque complex in the county and houses a school. Imam Taha Hassane issued a statement confirming that all students, teachers, and staff members inside the center were safe and unharmed during the incident.

Following the shooting, local authorities cordoned off several blocks around the area. Nearby schools were placed on temporary alert as parents gathered to pick up their children.

The investigation into the motive behind the attack remains ongoing.
