Columbus, Ohio — A massive statewide human trafficking operation in Ohio has resulted in 122 arrests after authorities launched a weeklong crackdown targeting individuals accused of buying sex and participating in trafficking-related crimes.
Officials announced Thursday that the operation, known as “Operation Spring Cleaning,” involved dozens of law enforcement agencies working together across multiple Ohio communities.
Statewide Sting Leads to 122 Arrests
According to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, the large-scale operation focused on combating human trafficking networks, prostitution-related crimes and the exploitation of minors.
Authorities said the crackdown resulted in the arrest of 122 individuals accused of attempting to purchase sex in Ohio, including alleged attempts involving minors.
Among those arrested, 38 suspects were charged with serious felony offenses such as promoting prostitution, trafficking in persons and attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
An additional 84 individuals, commonly referred to as “johns,” were charged with crimes related to solicitation and engaging in prostitution.
Attorney General Issues Strong Warning
Yost said the latest operation demonstrates both the ongoing scale of the problem and the state’s determination to continue targeting traffickers and buyers.
“This operation brings us to 1,065 arrests since our statewide stings began in 2019,” Yost said in a press release.
He also warned that authorities intend to continue aggressive enforcement efforts throughout Ohio.
“It shows the problem isn’t going away, but perpetrators are getting increasingly skittish as our message reverberates – Don’t buy sex in Ohio.”
The statewide operations first began in 2019 as smaller investigations before eventually expanding into coordinated crackdowns involving more than 100 law enforcement agencies.
Search Warrants Executed Across Ohio
As part of the operation, investigators also carried out 15 search warrants tied to suspected human trafficking activity at massage parlors located in cities including Akron, Columbus and Toledo.
Authorities confirmed that more than $120,000 was seized during those searches.
Officials have not yet released complete details regarding all businesses or individuals connected to the investigations, as some cases remain ongoing.
The attorney general’s office noted that suspects arrested during the operation were not only from Ohio, but also from nearby states including Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky.
Firefighters Among Those Arrested
Among the individuals arrested were a Cleveland firefighter and a retired Cleveland firefighter, according to officials.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the specific allegations involving those individuals.

The announcement quickly drew public attention due to the number of arrests and the wide range of people allegedly connected to the operation.
Survivors Connected With Support Services
While law enforcement focused on arrests and enforcement, officials also emphasized efforts to assist trafficking survivors.
According to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, 42 survivors of human trafficking were referred to healthcare providers and social service organizations for support and recovery assistance.
Advocates often stress that victims of trafficking require long-term care, counseling and resources to safely rebuild their lives after exploitation.
The statewide crackdown highlights ongoing concerns surrounding human trafficking operations throughout Ohio and across the United States, as authorities continue working to identify traffickers, buyers and victims.
