Los Angeles, California — Federal authorities have announced another major drug-related arrest tied to MacArthur Park, a neighborhood that has become the center of intensified law enforcement efforts targeting narcotics activity in Los Angeles.
Investigators say a local man was taken into custody after officers allegedly discovered a significant quantity of a chemical commonly associated with fentanyl production inside his backpack.
Arrest Made During MacArthur Park Enforcement Operation
According to federal prosecutors, 43-year-old Cheavis Cole Williamson of Westlake was arrested Thursday evening during a law enforcement operation conducted in the MacArthur Park area.
Authorities say officers with the Los Angeles Police Department were conducting proactive enforcement activities when they encountered Williamson and searched his belongings.
During the search, investigators allegedly discovered more than 1.2 kilograms (approximately 2.7 pounds) of a fentanyl precursor chemical inside his backpack.
Federal prosecutors subsequently charged Williamson with possession of a controlled substance.
Officials also noted that Williamson was allegedly on probation at the time of his arrest.
Federal Prosecutors Highlight Ongoing Crackdown
The arrest quickly drew attention from federal officials overseeing drug enforcement efforts in the region.
“Another day, another drug bust in the MacArthur Park area,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli wrote on X.
He also emphasized that law enforcement intends to maintain a strong presence in the area.
“As we’ve stated, law enforcement will maintain a strong presence at the park. There will be zero tolerance for drug dealing, and offenders will face the maximum federal prison sentences possible under the law.”
Federal authorities have repeatedly identified MacArthur Park as a major focus of ongoing anti-drug initiatives.
Apartment Search Leads to Additional Discovery
Following Williamson’s arrest, investigators expanded the investigation and obtained access to his residence.
According to prosecutors, law enforcement officers later searched his apartment and allegedly discovered nearly $1,000 worth of plastic bags on the floor.
While authorities have not publicly detailed how the bags were allegedly connected to the case, the discovery was included in court filings connected to the investigation.

Officials have not alleged that Williamson personally manufactured fentanyl.
