Douglas County, Georgia — A Georgia family is mourning the loss of a young mother after a devastating rollover crash claimed her life, while her 4-month-old daughter survived without injury in what loved ones are calling a miracle.

The tragic collision occurred on May 24, just one day before Memorial Day, and remains under investigation by state authorities.

Teen Mother Killed in Violent Crash

According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, 18-year-old Aubrey Phillips of Athens died after suffering fatal injuries in a crash in Douglas County.

Officials have not released a completed crash report, stating that investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened.

However, family members provided additional details during interviews with local media.

According to relatives, Phillips was riding in an SUV alongside her infant daughter, the child’s grandmother and the child’s aunt when the collision occurred.

The crash reportedly happened near Thornton Road and Waterway Circle when the SUV collided with a moving truck.

SUV Allegedly Flipped Four Times

An attorney representing the family told reporters that the impact caused the SUV to roll multiple times.

According to the family, the vehicle flipped four times, creating a violent scene that left several occupants seriously injured.

Phillips was killed in the crash, while the baby’s grandmother and aunt reportedly suffered major injuries. Despite the severity of the collision, the infant survived.

Family members said the 4-month-old remained secured in her car seat throughout the crash.

The infant’s survival has become a source of comfort for grieving relatives who are struggling to process the loss of Phillips.

Her mother, Florence Scott, said Aubrey was extremely careful about vehicle safety and always prioritized ensuring her daughter was properly secured.

“Her mother was big on car seat. Making sure she was strapped in,” Scott explained.

He also reflected on the young woman’s caring personality and the pain her loss has caused.

“Aubrey had such a caring heart, and her loss has left our family completely shattered,” he wrote.

While mourning Phillips, family members continue to find hope in the survival of her daughter.

According to Byrnes, the baby surviving “without harm … feels like a miracle after everything that happened.”
