MORTON GROVE, IL – A pedestrian miraculously escaped serious injury Wednesday morning after a driver lost control in an Aldi parking lot, striking multiple vehicles and pinning the victim underneath.
Chaos in the Parking Lot
The frightening incident occurred just before 11:00 a.m. in the 7900 block of Golf Road. According to Morton Grove police, a driver pulled straight through a parking spot, hitting at least three parked cars and a pedestrian.
Muhammad Moten, a nearby smoke shop owner who witnessed the aftermath, described hearing a sound like “an explosion” before walking out to see multiple cars collapsed together and a person trapped under a vehicle.
Dramatic Rescue Operation
Morton Grove firefighters arrived quickly and had to perform an emergency lift to free the trapped pedestrian.
“We were able to use the tool that we have to deploy rapidly along with some wood for cribbing just in case it was to fall,” said Morton Grove Fire Chief Dennis Kennedy. “Everything went well and this was a good outcome.”
Miraculous Outcome
Paramedics treated the pedestrian at the scene. Authorities confirmed that despite the severity of the crash and being pinned beneath the vehicle, the victim somehow avoided life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the driver’s sudden acceleration remains under investigation by the Morton Grove Police Department.
