ABERDEEN, WA – A Washington state father has been arrested and charged with murder after authorities discovered the remains of his missing 4-year-old son hidden underneath an Aberdeen home.
The Investigation
The case began on May 12 when Aberdeen police officers responded to reports of a missing 6-year-old girl. While investigators quickly located the girl safe with her mother, they noticed her brother, 4-year-old Aiden Bevins, was unaccounted for.
The father, Jacob Bevins, 36, initially told detectives that the boy was staying with relatives out of state. However, family members denied seeing the child, prompting a deeper investigation. Authorities estimate the boy had been missing for nearly a year.
Discovery and Charges
Following further questioning, search teams discovered the child’s remains on May 15 inside a garbage bag underneath the residence. Neighbors noted they had previously spotted disturbed dirt near the home’s foundation.
An autopsy revealed that the child’s injuries resulted from severe blunt force trauma, which officials stated contradicted the father’s initial claims of an accidental fall.
Jacob Bevins was booked into jail on Thursday and faces multiple felony charges, including:
- Second-degree murder
- First-degree manslaughter
- Unlawful disposal of remains
- Making false statements to a public servant
Prior CPS Concerns
Local reports revealed that both children had previously been in the foster care system before being returned to their biological parents. Former foster parents stated they had reached out to Child Protective Services (CPS) multiple times in the past to express concerns regarding the children’s safety.
The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare the case for court.
