YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK – Social media is erupting in anger after viral footage surfaced showing a pair of tourists repeatedly violating safety regulations to take close-up selfies with a massive bison.
The Incident On The Boardwalk
The footage, originally shared by ViralHog, shows two individuals stepping off the designated safety path and entering the park’s strict 25-yard safety zone. The tourists initially posed for photos near a thermal area where the wild animal was resting.
In a shocking turn, one tourist appeared to actually reach out and touch the wild animal. While the bison ignored the gesture and the pair walked away laughing, witnesses and viewers online expressed absolute horror at the reckless behavior.
Why This Is No Laughing Matter
Yellowstone officials continuously warn that bison are highly unpredictable and injure more people than any other animal in the park.
- Massive Scale: Bison are the largest land mammals in North America, with adult bulls weighing up to 2,000 pounds.
- Park Population: Yellowstone is home to the largest public herd in the United States, numbering between 3,000 and 6,000 bison.
Park rangers emphasize that when humans provoke these close encounters, it puts both human lives and the wild animals at severe risk.
Public Backlash
The video has sparked intense outrage online, with commenters blasting the tourists for their blatant disregard for park safety.
“Every day I hate people more and more,” one viewer commented. Another noted, “If he charges at them, they only have themselves to blame.” Park officials reiterate that respecting distance rules is mandatory to protect visitors, staff, and wildlife.
