ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – An off-hours beach trip nearly turned tragic Tuesday evening when a mother and her son were swept past the breakers and into deep water with no lifeguards on duty.
Emergency Response Near Tropicana
The dangerous incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. near the Tropicana Resort and Casino. Local emergency dispatchers received reports of two swimmers struggling in the rough surf well beyond the safe swimming zone.
Atlantic City firefighters arrived within minutes. Responders rushed directly into the ocean with rescue boards, battling heavy waves and a strong undertow to reach the pair.
Safe Return To Shore
Firefighters successfully secured both the mother and son on the rescue boards and pulled them safely back to the beach. Emergency medical services evaluated both individuals at the scene, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Off-Hours Safety Warning
Beach officials are using this close call as a critical reminder for residents and tourists. Visitors are strongly urged never to enter the ocean when lifeguards are off duty, as rip currents and rough surf can quickly overwhelm even experienced swimmers.
