Montreal Officer And Civilian Killed In Côte-des-Neiges Shooting

MONTREAL, QC – A tragic active shooting incident in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood on Monday left a police officer and a civilian dead, and another officer seriously injured before the gunman was neutralized.

Active Shooter Triggers Emergency Alert

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) issued an urgent emergency alert Monday morning warning residents of an “armed and dangerous suspect.” The neighborhood was placed under a strict shelter-in-place order, with residents instructed to lock their doors and stay away from windows.

Responding officers engaged the suspect, leading to a confrontation where the gunman was ultimately neutralized. Police later confirmed that the threat had ended and lifted the shelter order.

Casualties Confirmed

The incident resulted in three fatalities, including the suspect:

  • One SPVM Officer: Killed in the line of duty.
  • One Civilian: Fatally shot during the incident.
  • The Suspect: Pronounced dead at the scene.

A second responding officer sustained serious injuries during the gunfire but was reported to be in stable condition at an area hospital on Monday afternoon.

Investigation and Leadership Response

Authorities believe the gunman acted alone and state that no additional suspects are at large. The identities of the victims and the shooter have not yet been publicly released as the investigation continues.
