Former North Texas Teacher Arrested After Student Reports Inappropriate Relationship, Police Say

Carrollton, Texas – A former middle school teacher in North Texas has been arrested after authorities say he had an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to an arrest warrant affidavit released by police.

The suspect was identified as Miguel Caban-Mendez, a former English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at DeWitt Perry Middle School in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District.

Carrollton police confirmed that Caban-Mendez was taken into custody following allegations made by a student, and he is now facing multiple criminal charges.

Authorities say the investigation began after a student reported inappropriate conduct involving the former teacher.

Student Reported Being Called to Teacher’s Classroom

According to the arrest affidavit, the student told investigators that Caban-Mendez would frequently call her out of class and ask her to come to his classroom during his off periods.

The affidavit states that this reportedly happened sometimes twice a week, with the teacher telling the student’s instructor that he needed to speak with her for about 20 minutes at a time.

Investigators said the student reported that Caban-Mendez began giving her foot massages using lotion during these meetings.

Authorities say the alleged behavior later escalated, though investigators did not publicly release further details due to the nature of the accusations.

Other Students Also Interviewed

During the investigation, police also spoke with three additional students, according to the affidavit.

Authorities say all three students reported similar experiences involving foot massages from the teacher.

Investigators have not confirmed whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

Teacher Placed on Leave Before Resigning

The affidavit states that the school district initially placed Caban-Mendez on administrative leave after the allegations surfaced.

However, before any final disciplinary action was taken, officials say he resigned from his position with the district.

In a statement provided to reporters, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD confirmed that the district is cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities.
