CULVER CITY, CA – A 41-year-old man faces heavy felony charges after a string of suspicious fires damaged multiple vehicles, trees, and public park property across Culver City.
Arrest and Serious Charges
The Culver City Police Department confirmed that Rizwan Ahmed, 41, was taken into custody on June 12. Following an investigation, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has officially filed charges against him, including:
- Aggravated arson
- Arson
- Felony vandalism
The Investigation and Pattern
The breakthrough in the case came after a significant vehicle fire erupted just before 4:00 a.m. on June 2 on Culver Boulevard. In that incident, the flames quickly spread, destroying a second vehicle and catching two nearby trees on fire outside a local home.
As arson investigators analyzed the scene, they discovered distinct similarities to other recent fires in the immediate area. Authorities were able to connect the June 2 incident to:
- A separate vehicle fire reported on Center Street.
- Multiple fires set in and around Tellefson Park.
Ahmed remains in custody following the formal filing of charges. Police have not yet released a potential motive behind the string of arsons.
