Facebook Marketplace Meetup Turns Into Armed Robbery in East Windsor, Police Say

EAST WINDSOR — What was supposed to be a routine Facebook Marketplace exchange escalated into an armed robbery Sunday afternoon, according to local police.

Officers with the East Windsor Police Department responded to a report of a robbery in the area of Depot Street after a buyer and seller met to complete an online transaction. Police said the meetup took a dangerous turn when a firearm was displayed during the encounter.

Lt. Derek Leab confirmed that the incident involved a weapon but said no shots were fired and no injuries were reported. The suspect or suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

Authorities have not released details about what item was being sold or whether any property or money was taken during the robbery. Police also have not said how many people were involved.

Leab said investigators are actively following up on leads and reviewing available information related to the case. At this time, no arrests have been announced.

Police are reminding residents to use caution when arranging in-person transactions through online marketplaces. Law enforcement officials recommend meeting in well-lit, public locations, bringing another person along when possible, and avoiding secluded areas. Many police departments also offer designated “safe exchange zones” near police facilities for online transactions.

Anyone with information related to the incident on Depot Street is encouraged to contact the East Windsor Police Department. Tips from the public could assist investigators as they work to identify and locate those responsible.

The investigation remains ongoing.
