Fort Worth, Texas — A Texas family is demanding answers after a 28-year-old father of six died in a crash during a late-night police pursuit in Fort Worth, leaving loved ones questioning why officers were chasing him in the first place.
The man who died was identified by relatives as Kendrick Gipson, a young father remembered by family members as devoted to his children and deeply loved by those around him.
Family Says Gipson Had Just Left Grandmother’s Home
According to relatives, Gipson had just left his grandmother’s home in Fort Worth late Monday night when police attempted to stop his vehicle.
Not long afterward, the family received devastating news about a fatal crash connected to a police pursuit.
“To me, he was a fun cousin, a family guy… he loved his kids,” said his cousin, Asia Taylor.
At the crash scene, Gipson’s grandmother struggled to process the tragedy.
“I’m really at a loss for words because I’m really upset,” said Debbie Gipson.
The emotional scene unfolded as family members tried to understand how a routine traffic stop escalated into a deadly collision.
Police Say Vehicle Was Linked to Alleged Kidnapping
Fort Worth police stated that officers attempted to stop Gipson because they believed the vehicle he was driving was connected to an aggravated kidnapping investigation.
Authorities said Gipson continued driving north on Interstate 35W, leading officers into a pursuit.
According to police, the chase ended when the vehicle exited onto Pharr Street, where it reportedly lost control and slammed into a concrete pillar beneath an overpass.
“The suspect vehicle took the Pharr Street exit, lost control and crashed into a concrete pillar underneath the overpass,” said Tracy Carter, a public information officer with the Fort Worth Police Department.
Police confirmed Gipson died at the scene and said he was the only person inside the vehicle.
Family Questions Police Narrative
Despite the police explanation, Gipson’s family says they have serious doubts about the allegations involving a kidnapping.
Relatives questioned why no alleged victim has been publicly identified and say they believe authorities have not fully explained what happened.
“If this were an alleged kidnapping, where is the victim in this?” Taylor asked. “I don’t feel like they were very forthcoming with what actually transpired.”
The family is now calling for authorities to release additional details, including any available dashcam footage from the pursuit.
Mother Says She Heard Crash During Phone Call
Juanita Moreno, the mother of Gipson’s children, revealed she was speaking with him on the phone while police were attempting to pull him over.
According to Moreno, Gipson repeatedly questioned officers during the stop and sounded frightened during the encounter.
“I can hear it in his voice; he was uncomfortable. He was scared,” Moreno said. “The next thing you know, we just hear a loud bang, like if somebody t-boned him.”

Her emotional account has intensified calls from the family for a transparent investigation into the events leading up to the crash.
Family Demands Transparency as Investigation Continues
A police spokesperson confirmed that the investigation remains active and stated more information would be released later.
For Gipson’s relatives, however, the wait for answers has become unbearable.
“We’re demanding full transparency. I want to see the dashcam footage,” Taylor said.
The loss has left six children without their father, devastating a family now searching for clarity and accountability.
“He was loved, and this is not going to be something we’re going to be quiet about and forget about. He mattered,” Taylor added.
As investigators continue reviewing the incident, Gipson’s family says they remain determined to uncover exactly what happened during the deadly pursuit.
